Hillsong United’s New Album Was Worth the Wait

By: Ally Barnes

After three years, Hillsong UNITED’S latest album Are We There Yet? has been released and it was worth the wait.

Jad Gillies and Matt Crocker from the band spoke in an interview about creating an album during a pandemic, and how important music is for seeing the presence of God in challenging times.

Amusingly, Jad clarified their album inspiration didn’t come from The Wiggles classic “Are We There Yet?”.

“This album is about a journey… with the creative process, with who we are as Christians, and as human beings… are we at the destination yet? No,” he said.

Matt added: “I feel like everyone is asking that kind of question in their life. When are we getting through this? When are we on the other side? When are we there? And that’s not pandemic related, that’s life in general.”

After a difficult season for their local church, Jad shared how important the worship time and music was for bringing perspective.

“In the season our church is in at the moment, we have the opportunity to shrink back, or we have the incredible opportunity to pastor our people through it and remind them of the presence of God, the one thing that can change everything,” Jad said.

“If they walk into the service and they are disillusioned, or discouraged, or maybe they’re having the best day ever… my job will always be to help them see the presence of God.”
