Street Art

Streetlights latest initiative, STREET ART – “A COMMUNITY OF YOUNG ARTISTS EMPOWERED TO REACH THEIR FULL POTENTIAL” has seen young artists thrive. At the end of last year 11-19 year olds gathered each Thursday and Saturday to grow as artists and individuals through the guidance of guest artists and volunteers from local churches.

Streetlight partnered with Social Enterprise Noteworthy Cards, to join them in their mission, “to inspire people to love generously through words of encouragement while funding life-changing gifts for people suffering in poverty.”

To fulfil this mission, each week participants wrote encouraging messages to other participants. It was a joy to watch them grow in their confidence both giving and receiving encouragement from others and making new friends.

Part two was fulfilled as the young artists learnt how they could creatively bless others through their artistic talents, with the sale of their artwork on greeting cards.

For every card sold, $1.50 is assigned for the young people to select gifts to donate to those in poverty overseas, through NOTEWORTHY CARDS collaboration with TEAR FUND AUSTRALIA. The remaining sales covering printing costs and STREET ART expenses. To support the work you can view and purchase the Greeting Cards here.

On December 4th, the young artists were celebrated for their achievements, and took home a little earnings for themselves, through the sale of their Artwork on canvases at the STREET ART Exhibition. Here, Mayor Glenn Docherty, congratulated them on their achievements and handed them Art wraps, lovingly sewn by a volunteer. Over 500 hours were invested through volunteers who value these young people.

Candace Gwyther was one of the artists who volunteered her time to work with the kids. You can help support Streetlight and their next STREET ART program when you come along to the fundraiser art retreat “Presently Painting” – check out the details here.
