Shining a Light on Global Christian Persecution

Open Doors recently released their World Watch List for 2023. This list uses six different scores to rank countries in order of the prevalence of Christian persecution. Open Doors come alongside these Christians to provide practical things to aid them in following Jesus. These things might include medical aid, bibles, discipleship, among many other practical supports.

Scott and Matt on Adelaide’s Good Taste Breakfast recently interviewed Jordan Scott from Open Doors to discuss the findings from the report. Key findings include:

1 in 7 Christians face persecution for their faith. Furthermore, the number of countries where Christians face this high level of persecution has nearly doubled from the launch of the WWL 30 years ago, from 40 in 1993 to 76 today. North Korea returned to spot 1, with their highest ever level of persecution. In some good news however, there has been some greater tolerance for Christians noted in some Middle Eastern countries, such as in Egypt.

The question becomes – how can we help? Prayer is key. Jordan discussed spending time with persecuted believers in Egypt, and their request for people to pray for them. It is a matter of life and death for those Christians. Click here to find more information about the countries noted in the WWL, as well as specific prayer points for those places.
