Creating Change: Tackling Vet Abuse with Sophie’s Legacy

Bec and Liam had the honour of chatting to Garry Putland, Director & Co-Founder of Sophie’s Legacy, to discuss the abuse faced by veterinary staff from clients. Dr. Sophie Putland, Garry’s daughter and beloved vet, tragically took her own life in September 2021 due to the overwhelming pressure from the veterinary profession.

On average, a vet dies by suicide approximately every 12 weeks. Sophie’s Legacy exists to advocate for change in the industry. Garry and Bec discuss the impact of the Sophie’s Legacy campaign and how we can counter the negative experiences of our vets during appointments. This includes treating your vet with kindness and thanking them for the work they do to help our animals. Garry finishes the interview with a heartfelt message to veterinary professionals who may be struggling.
